What I Learned About Serving and Leading in 2011

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for neglecting this blog! I have had a very busy holiday season, needless to say. As 2012 fast approached, time seems to catch up, and memories clouded my thoughts. Time flies. It is scary how much I don't remember.

2011 has been a huge year of change for me.

As I reflect upon all of my devotionals and times that God has spoken to me, it seems like in this year alone I could write down a timeline describing a story that could occupy a whole lifetime. Everything goes up and down, and when I finally figure out what happened, another wave comes and knocks me over.

One of the major changes in 2011 for me was the amount of time I dedicated to serving in Church. Church is no longer a meeting to meeting thing. Church is no longer a place to hang out with friends. Church is a place to serve from meeting to meeting. I don't want to be part of Church, I want to own it. To make it mine. Church is a place to love, and serve friends. I don't want to hang out at church, I want to edify at Church, unify at Church, and encourage at Church.

Serving is hard. I learned that serving is even harder when people don't appreciate what you do. It doesn't matter though, a good servant will serve all people. I will not let people's ingratitude rob blessing from me. I will serve and expect nothing back.

I wonder how many times Jesus was thanked for his work.

Where did all the time go? Time flies.

2 Timothy 4:6-7
New King James Version (NKJV)

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Paul poured out his time and effort into the advancement of the Gospel. His time flew by just as fast as ours did. Paul was able to look back and remember all the times he was persecuted for the gospel, and when he saw thousands come to Christ, and when he performed miracles.

I want that. I want to be able to look back at my years, and think of story after story of when God came through for me, when the Holy Spirit spoke through me, and when Christ spoke to me.

Never relent. Never slow down. Don't let age take passion from you.

Love you all!

-Jerry

  1. Hey man, great post. Great to see you're still blogging. I've been learning a lot about serving and leading the past few months, and have been blogging a lot about it, too. It's cool to see you've been giving it some thought. Keep blogging and Happy New Year!
